Neighborhood Guide · Buckley, WA

Buckley: a small logging town below Mount Rainier.

A genuine small city in the Rainier foothills with logging-town character, a historic Main Street, and the mountain at the end of the street.

What Buckley is like

Timber-town roots and a slower, friendlier pace.

Buckley is a small city in Pierce County at the base of Mount Rainier, sitting on the SR-410 corridor as a gateway to the mountain. It grew out of the timber industry, and the heritage is still on display: the annual Buckley Log Show every June, a historic Main Street, a classic drive-in, and the Foothills Historical Museum. Locals call it the City of Good Water.

The town traces its start to the 1870s, when the area was known as Perkins' Prairie, before it was renamed Buckley in 1888 after a railroad superintendent. That railroad history shaped a compact, walkable downtown that the big-box suburbs never had.

Buckley is served by the White River School District, which also covers nearby Wilkeson. For buyers who want a genuine small town, room for land, and Mount Rainier as part of the daily view, Buckley delivers a pace the closer-in suburbs cannot.
